OpenSUSE: installing over PXE

There are just three prerequisites:

  • PXE support in the target system
  • a DHCP server
  • a TFTP server

PXE support

PXE support has long been a standard feature in servers and/or server network cards. Office-style desktop systems quite often also have PXE support. Built-in PXE support makes it easier, but even systems without it can be made to boot over PXE. If available as a built-in feature, PXE booting is typically added to the boot-device list in the BIOS. Quite often though it is also accessible by pressing PF12 during boot-up.
